The Wittering area includes military facilities at the following locations:
and the main married quarter areas now administered by The Defence Executive at Wittering.
The main SFA are situated off base although there are houses on base.
Area Overview
The main entrance to RAF Wittering is on the A1 about 3 miles south of Stamford and 88 miles north of London. The station is just within the County of Cambridgeshire, with the boundaries of Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire being within 3 miles.
Stamford is the nearest town and is described as 'probably England's best stone town'. It offers a good range of shopping and a market is held in the town centre on a Friday. Nearby, the Cathedral City of Peterborough offers more extensive shopping facilities in modern precincts. Market day is Wednesday and late night shopping is on a Thursday.

A local bus services run from Wittering village to Stamford, Oakham and Peterborough. Rail stations are located at Stamford and Peterborough.

The Regional Medical Centre on camp takes families as well as Service personnel. Alternatively, you may join the practice at Wansford: Regional Medical Centre, Welland Rd, RAF Wittering.
RAF Wittering Dental Centre provides treatment for Service Personnel only.
Sports and Leisure
RAF Wittering has a range of recreational facilities. The gymnasium contains a modern, well-equipped weight training room and health and fitness suite. Other activities on offer include: canoeing, sub-aqua, skiing, mountain biking and trekking expeditions. There is also the High Ropes Course, which is adjacent to the gymnasium. The library and Internet suite are situated in Force Development Sqn.
RAF Wittering also has a bowling alley, several bars, and a Spar shop with vending machines.
Shopping and Tourism
The village of Wittering has a Spar and a small shop and Post Office (which offers a wide range of services including Car Tax renewal). You will find a good selection of high street shops in Stamford and the following supermarkets: Morrisons, Somerfields, Lidl and a small Tesco.
