Area Overview
Shawbury village is 0.5 miles from the Station entrance. There are a good range of shops including a Spar, butchers, bakers, post office, hairdressers, farm shop and 3 takeaway food outlets. Tescos and Morrisons are the nearest supermarkets. They are both located on the outskirts of Shrewsbury approximately 6 miles along the A53.
Shrewsbury is 7 miles to the west with Telford 9 miles to the south. Both towns have the usual range and variety of larger shops.
Children and Education
Primary aged children mainly use St. Mary’s CE School located opposite the Station entrance. There is also Shawbury Primary School in the village approximately 1 mile from RAF Shawbury.
Secondary School pupils come under the catchment area for The Thomas Adams School in Wem. Pupils are entitled to free transport for the 6 miles to Wem. The school encompasses a 6th form centre and a boarding house. The Thomas Adams School also has specialist media arts college status.
Transport and Travel
Bus: Shrewsbury Park and Ride – nearest one is at Harlescott. Buses go every 10 mins to the centre of town. Adults return fare £1.20. Accompanied children under 16 travel free. ‘Arriva’ buses go to Shrewsbury and Market Drayton from the bus stop by Grayham Wylde’s garage in the village. Service no. X64.

Station Medical Centre (SMC) RAF Shawbury
Families of personnel serving at RAF Shawbury are welcome to register at the SMC, full details of all the facilities available will be given upon registration.
Shawbury Village NHS Practice.
There is a NHS practice in the village with which families may register if they wish.
Dental provision for serving personnel is via the Station Dental Centre.
