Sitting in one of the worlds biggest and most spectacular natural harbours the City of Plymouth has an extraordinary blend of the old and new. To the north of Plymouth you have Dartmoor National Park one of the finest unspoilt landscapes in the UK, with beaches and sea to the south. As an historic seafaring port there are many sights and places of interest to visit as well as leisure facilities, which include a 10 screen cinema, bowling alley, theatre and dry ski centre. There is also an excellent nightlife scene renowned throughout the country.

With an endless stream of festivals, concerts, exhibitions and conventions there is always something going on. Plymouth also boasts three sports teams who have been successful on the national stage, with major events held throughout the year.

Predominately a Naval town, Plymouth establishments include HMS Drake Naval Base at Devonport, 42 Cdo at Bickleigh Barracks, 29 Cdo at the Royal Citadel, UKLF CSG at Stonehouse RM Barracks and at 539 Sqdn at Turnchapel, HMS Raleigh Training Centre at Torpoint and TA Centres located at Derriford and Millbay.

Transport and Travel

The city's bus service is provided primarily by Citybus but also First Group. There are 3 train stations comprising of Plymouth, Devonport Dockyard and Saltash. For dependants the main hospital in Plymouth with an A+E is Derriford Hospital, Derriford Road. There are various other sites/hospitals located around Plymouth which serve either for minor injuries or specialist clinics. The city also has a Nuffield Health Hospital for private care. For dental care there are many practices within the city though as everywhere in the country finding one taking on NHS patients is a nightmare. In the event of being unable to find a dentist you should write to this freepost address to be put on Plymouth's database which is on a first come first served basis. You will then be allocated one. You should state your name, address, telephone number and date of birth not forgetting to include all your family members.

HMS Drake is the main and largest service establishment and provides excellent facilities which include: gymnasium, flood lit pitch, squash and tennis courts, swimming pool, leisure hire facilities, club activities include: car club, boxing training, canoe club, sub aqua club and the Plymouth Command Golf Society.

Armada Way

Explore the city’s main pedestrian boulevard link from the mainline station to the magnificent Hoe and waterfront and you’ll discover the Armada Centre, where you will find a major food store and a host of other fine shops. Continue browsing along Armada Way and you’ll find a wide range of larger retailers alongside coffee shops and landscaped seating areas.

New George Street and Cornwall Street

These two pedestrianised streets run the length of the city centre and are a must for all your favourite high street brands as well as being home to our three major department stores.

Independent Quarter

The Independent Quarter at the western end of the city centre is home to over 200 unique shops in and around the indoor City Market. For that special purchase and great service this area of the city centre is not to be missed.

Drake Circus

Drake Circusis Plymouth’s brand new covered shopping centre. Opened in October 2006 it is home to a wide range of well-known high street and independent stores and restaurants. It has eight major stores plus over 48 shops, cafes and restaurants. It is full of modern facilities for shoppers, including 1,270 car parking spaces, lavatories, lifts and disabled access.

Things to do, pubs to visit, places to eat out

According to some of the Rear Party users, The Fisherman's Arms very near the Citadel, is well worth a visit. Fab alcohol, very fab food.

File:Ginfactory.jpeg The Plymouth Gin Factory is worth a visit, so it's been said. Black Friars Distillery, the working home of Plymouth Gin since 1793, is the oldest working gin distillery in England and is situated in the heart of the historic port city of Plymouth.

The building dates back to the early 1400’s with the oldest part of the building – the Refectory, a medieval hall with a fine hull-shaped timber roof, dating back to 1431.

Tours: Monday - Saturday 10.30 - 4.30; Sunday 11.30 - 3.30
