Pirbright is situated in a rural area with the Basingstoke canal running along side it. The nearest towns are Woking and Guilford both being about 6 miles either end of us. Pirbright is a Training Depot for Phase 1 recruits (Army Training Regiment), it is also home to the Resident Unit who are the Royal Anglians, they have their own camp within the ATR. Pirbright is only a 10 minute drive from the M3 and you can be on the M25 within 20 minutes.

Deepcut Garrison is situated in the Surrey Heath Borough of Surrey, a countryside area that has excellent access to surrounding towns, villages and cities and is served by the M25, M3 and M23 motorways. Coastal towns such as Portsmouth and Southampton are just over an hour away and London is within easy reach both by car or train. Local amenities are ample with family attractions, leisure centres, shopping centres, cinemas, theatres, sporting venues and supermarkets all within easy access.

Children and Education

The nearest Primary Schools are: Brookwood County and Pirbright Village School. The nearest Secondary Schools are:-The Winston Churchill a Specialist Sports College, Kings International, Ash Manor, Tomlinscote School and Sixth Form College and Woking High School. There are several play areas on Pirbright patch that are popular.

Transport and Travel

There is a regular bus service to most of the surrounding towns.

The train station, Brookwood, is approximately one mile from the Camp with at least 3 trains an hour to London.

Pets

Petdoctors in Knaphill http://www.petdoctors.co.uk/ is just past Sainsbury's There is also Bisley veterinary surgery [1] just slightly further out in Bisley, an independant & very helpful practice. There are lots of public footpaths and bridleways for dog walking in the Pirbright area, just watch out for livestock and cattle grids! Keep your dog on lead as some of the farmers can get upset if your dog is pestering the cattle. Stoney Castle Ranges are a good dog walk but look for the Red Flags which mean you can't go in; The surrounding woods and bridleways are a really good dog walk for lots of sniffing!

Medical and Dental

ATC (P) Medical Centre can be used by the families as well as ATC staff and recruits. A Nurse run Clinic, Child immunisation, Smear, Vaccination and Smoking Cessation clinics are available with an on site pharmacy.

The Dental centre cannot be used by Families.

Sports and Leisure

Alexander Barracks is a Phase 1 training camp, there is a spar shop, gym, swimming pool, squash courts, football/rugby pitches, running pitches, barbers, adult learning centre, Sandes coffee shop, stables, nursery and medical centre.

Elizabeth Barracks is a separate camp and is within the ATR camp for the resident Unit, the Royal Anglians, they have their own gym, squash courts, football pitch, internet suite and Naafi.

Shopping and Tourism

There are 2 Spars one in the quartering area and the other on ATC (P). Within the area there is also a Sainsbury’s and Homebase. The butcher in the village 'Fulk Brothers' is excellent, and worth the slight extra expense over the Sainsbury in Knaphill. There is a Lloyds TSB in Knaphill which is only open to 4.30pm but much easier to get to than Woking. The nearest Shopping towns are Woking, Camberley, Farnborough, and Guildford. Peacocks Shopping Centre in Woking has a covered carpark and has all the usual shops under one roof. There is also a Cinema and Theatre through the top level of the shopping centre. There is also a small Retail Park on the way out of Woking with a Currys, Argos, Petsathome and a few others. Guildford has more high end shops in a pretty setting and is on a hill. The other supermarkets are relatively close by with Morrisons in Woking and Tesco in Aldershot.
