Area Overview
RAF Valley is located on the Isle of Anglesey which is situated off the northwest coast of Wales near the beautiful Snowdonia mountain range. It is separated from the mainland by the Menai Strait, which is spanned by two picturesque bridges, the Menai Bridge and the Britannia Bridge. The Isle of Anglesey is an area of outstanding beauty and hugs the coast of North Wales and boasts over 100 miles of spectacular coastline with many blue flag beaches. It is a watersports paradise with very active clubs in water-skiing, windsurfing, surfing, sailing, canoeing, angling and sub-aqua to name but a few. RAF Valley is situated off junction 4 of the A55.
Bangor is the nearest city (approximately 20 miles from station) Bangor a university town, is one of the smallest cities in the United Kingdom lying on the banks of the Menai Straits. Bangor is a principal shopping centre with many High street names and a wide variety of places to eat and a good range of accommodation. Bangor is an ideal centre for the outdoor enthusiast.

Shopping and Tourism
In terms of 'things to do' RAF Valley cannot be beaten!! Cymyran beach (far side of the airfield) is a 2 mile long secluded beach, unspoilt!! beware of currents coming from the inland sea during tidal changes. Don't let kids swim at the camp end of the beach, head down toward Rhosneigr! Trearddur Bay is gorgeous but more commercial.
Park up near South Stack lighthouse and follow the path to the top of Holyhead Mountain on a clear day...awesome views, well worth the effort.
Snowdonia is right on your doorstep...nuff said! For those with kids, the Welsh Mountain railway (starts in Caernarfon) is well worth the money. Travels up past Snowdon and joins onto the railway at Porthmadog, fabulous views and an ace day out. Caernarfon Castle is very reasonable for a day out and incorporates the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Museum. You can go right up into the towers and walk right round the ramparts...kids love it. Anglesey sea zoo...good day out.
Ferries daily to Dublin and Dun Loaghaire
