Area Overview

Hereford, a city with a population of approximately 60,000, is located on the A49 between Ross-on-Wye to the south and Leominster/Shrewsbury to the north, although a lot of people think it is located in Wales we are on the English side of the Welsh boarder and we are surrounded by beautiful countryside and farmlands. Hereford is situated on the River Wye which runs through the middle of the city.

Hereford city is a bustling, up and coming city centre with plenty of shops and restaurants to suit everyone’s taste, and with major shopping centres such as Birmingham and Cardiff only an hour and a half away it is an excellent location.

Hereford Garrison is split into two main areas, Credenhill and Stirling Estate. Both locations have different types of SFA and there are six miles between them.

Children and Education

Hereford is home to over 30 primary schools, Credenhill and Stirling Estate have schools in their catchment areas, but you are also free to choose a school outside of that providing you take and collect your child if there is no school transport.

Many families chose boarding while at Hereford as there are good schools within easy access, if you are thinking of sending your child to boarding school.

Transport and Travel

We have a good public transport system here in Hereford, with regular buses in and out of town; we also have a train station within easy reach of the city centre that have good services to other major cities.

Our closest airports are Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff, which are just over an hours drive away.

Pets

Medical and Dental

Service Personnel at Stirling Lines have a good healthcare facility provided for them, with on site medical staff and dental centre. Healthcare within Hereford is good with plenty of GP surgeries to choose from and a local Hospital with an A&E department. Dental treatment is the same as any other UK location with very little NHS dentists available, but there is a good emergency system in place so that adults and children can be seen while waiting to register with an NHS dentist.

Sports and Leisure

Shopping and Tourism

There are plenty of good quality shops in Hereford’s city centre, Marks and Spencer, Next, Monsoon, Boots, New Look, Fat Face, White Stuff just to name a few, we also have most of the big named supermarkets and a good indoor market for you to stock up on local produce. There is a Farmers Market twice monthly in the city centre and several farm shops and PYO in the surrounding area where you can buy local organic fruit, vegetables and meat.

If you do fancy a day out to a bigger city for shopping then there is Worcester, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol.
