Area Overview

Halton is, for many, the gateway to the Royal Air Force. The station provides Basic Recruit Training for Airmen and Airwomen entering the Service and management training for personnel selected for promotion to Cpl, Sgt and FS. The station also provides specialist trade training to both service personnel and civilians.

Halton is also home for many lodger units and the Station has parenting responsibilities for the Defence Dental Agency(DDA), the Defence Media Operations Centre (DMOC), the RAF Training Development & Support Unit(TDSU), the Herts & Bucks Wing Air Training Corps HQ and No 613 Volunteer Gliding School.

Transport and Travel

The nearest railway station is in the nearby small town of Wendover (20 minutes on foot). Chiltern railways run regular services from London Marylebone station.

Sports and Leisure

Sports plays a major role into the life of the station and Halton is officially designated as the Home for Sport fro 14 different sports within the Service. The Station has 2 well-equipped gyms, new fitness suite, extensive playing fields, a floodlit, all weather hockey pitch and a modern sports pavilion capable of hosting major events. The Station also has its own cinema, theatre club, ceramics club, community centre and a coffee shop.

Shopping and Tourism

The closest town is Wendover, a very small town with numerous small shops and a market on Thursdays.

Five miles up the road is the larger town of Aylesbury which has most of the usual high street shops and larger supermarkets.
