Area Overview
Cranwell is within the district of North Kesteven and is located adjacent to the A17, the Boston -Sleaford – Newark on Trent (18 miles with A1 access) and the City of Lincoln is 14 miles north. A very rural farming area of low population density.
Neither RAF Barkston Heath nor RAF Syerston have Service Families' Accommodation all their SFA is at RAF Cranwell within walking distance of the facilities.
Children and Education
Kidzone, on Station, is the principal pre/after-School activity provider (01400 267826 / 262621). For those @ Cranwell the Primary School (01400 261271) is on-site. Secondary schooling is all off-site with transport provided through Lincolnshire County Council (for their nominated schools).
Within Sleaford,secondary education is available from St Georges College of Technology, Carre’s Grammer School for Boys, Kesteven & Sleaford High School for Girls. Some 3 miles west is Sir William Roberts High School, Welbourne & approx 7 miles east is The Coteland’s School.
There are no private schools within reasonable commuting distance.
Transport and Travel
Non school bus services are extremely limited, being Cranwell to Sleaford, Monday to Friday with no weekend services & no buses after 1715hrs. Current Timetables are available from the HIVE along with the Call Connect 31S Sleaford service for weekends.
Pets
Medical and Dental
The Regional Health Centre provides Medical & Dental care for Service personnel & Medical care for entitled/registered civilians. The Centre has full Pre & Ante-Natal services. Under the current NHS support system, the out-of-hours Medical care is provided by Lincolnshire South West NHS Primary Care Trust. Non-registered Dental patients should utilise the NHS Direct line.

There is a SPAR shop with a Post Office on-site with the major retailers including Sainsbury, Tesco, Homebase & Woolworths being located in the market town of Sleaford (5 miles). Newark, Grantham & Lincoln provide more facilities.
