Area Overview

Welcome to Colerne and to Azimghur Barracks the home of 21st Signal Regiment. Colerne is a small village in the heart of Wiltshire, easily accessible from both the M4 and M5. All local shops and amenities can be found in the market town of Chippenham approximately 20 minutes away. Nearby is the historic village of Castle Combe which is famous for the race track.

North Colerne is a very pretty location surrounded with rolling countryside. However if you do not have your own transport then you may feel isolated as the public transport links are not very practical.

There are two GP practices in Colerne. The New Surgery (Tel 01225 742028) has a dispensing pharmacy on site, the second practice is The Firs Surgery (Tel 01225 743600). The Health Visitor works from New Surgery. Baby weighing clinics are held at the Community Centre.

Azimghur Barracks has a fully functioning Gym.

Shopping and Tourism

There are many places of interest to visit in the surrounding area of Wiltshire and Somerset, including Bristol Zoo, Cheddar Caves, Wookey Hole, Longleat, and many more. The nearest airport is at Bristol along with several other attractions including the @ Bristol Museum, Cribbs Causeway Shopping Mall and the Bristol Hippodrome Theatre.

There is a Spar shop and thrift shop on the main road through the barracks. The Community Centres facilities comprise Oliver's Hair Salon, the Coffee Shop and Azimghur Tots Pre- School.

There is a Mace shop on camp. Chippenham is the nearest town (8 miles away) with a variety of high street shops and supermarkets. Bath is also close by where there are many restaurants and cafes alongside the shops.

The town of Colerne is a 2 mile walk from the camp and has two small convenience stores and two pubs.
