Area Overview
Chatham Garrison is situated in the centre of the Medway Towns, 20 minutes from London by train, 35 minutes away from France by Eurostar and is in the North West of Kent – The Garden of England. Within close proximity are the beautiful cities of Canterbury, Tonbridge Wells and Maidstone, the County Town.
Medway Towns have historically been renowned for their maritime history, the Dockyard here has 400 years of history. Within Medway there are castles, a cathedral, the Royal Engineers Museum, Fort Amherst and two country parks.
Children and Education
There are 3 pre-school nurseries locally, There is a primary school within the married quarters and several other local primary schoolswithin walking distance.
Secondary education in Kent is through the selective system however we do have local schools which do not require 11 plus classification. Special schools are also available in the Gillingham area.
Transport and Travel
The nearest train station is less than a mile away in Gillingham, there is a bus station nearby and buses run outside the barracks regularly with destinations such as Chatham, Rochester, Bluewater Shopping Centre, Dockside Outlet Centre and Maidstone.

There is a doctors and a dentists surgery in Brompton, the local hospital is in Windmill Road, Gillingham.
Sports and Leisure
There’s a leisure centre, a bowling centre, kart circuit, ski & snowboarding, an Ice Rink, theatres and shopping Centres, kids play zones and lots more.
Within the barracks there is a NAAFI Spar shop, internet café, WRVS, launderette, gym, squash courts and mess bars with facilities.
Shopping and Tourism
Local amenities are ample, with leisure centres, shopping centres, cinemas and supermarkets all within minutes of the garrison.
