and the main married quarter areas is the DE Ops Housing Information Centre (which deals with all housing matters except repairs) is based in York.
Married Quarters
Allenby estate is one married quarter area; its not the cheapest, but the houses are nice and havedecent size gardens. Wavell School is in easy walking distance from the estate and its also in walking distance of the Bowden Powell.
2 Roman Crescent, one of the MQ houses, is right at the top of the garrison.
The houses are typically the same style as many others; you walk into the hallway with the staircase to either the left or the right and the kitchen, downstairs loo then a front room/ dining room in one with patio doors. There is also a walk-in cupboard next to the loo so plenty of storage space in these houses.
Location Overview
Bassingbourne is part of the Catterick Garrison, which is found on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and close to the North Yorkshire Moors. The sea is only an hour drive away, as is the popular walking area, the Lake District.
The lovely market towns of Darlington, Richmond and Northallerton are closer to the Garrison town of Catterick; which itself has a lot to offer.
Area Overview
Catterick Garrison is situated on the edge of the exquisite Yorkshire Dales and close to the delights of the North Yorkshire Moors. The sea is only an hour drive away, as is the beautiful Lake District. Catterick Garrison itself also has lot to offer with further development plans including a new Sports and Leisure Centre.
The Garrison is well supported with a variety of facilities within the Army Welfare Service community complex including the HIVE, free Internet Facilities (in HIVE), the NSPCC Almond Tree Project, Mother and Todlers sessions and children's activities hosted by Community Support. Outside the AWS complex are other facilities including two well used Community Centres hosting regular events - the White Rose Club which houses a ten pin bowling alley, and the Dalesman Community Centre which adjoins Soldier Sam’s adventure play centre. There is also a thrift shop, library, leisure centre hosting three swimming pools and other sporting and recreational facilities and an 18 hole golf course.
Children and Education
There are four primary schools and one secondary school on the Garrison, as well as a large range of local independent schools.
The local schools will be Carnagill or Wavell if you need them
Mowbray School in Bedale is a school for children with a wide range of generic learning difficulties.

Buses - The local bus service is operated by Arriva.
Rail Travel - Darlington and Northallerton are the closest railway stations to Catterick Garrison.

Shopping and Tourism
There are a range of supermarkets, clothes shops and general stores on the Garrison including: Tesco (with 24 hr banking), Aldi, Lidl, In Store, Peacocks, William Hill, Greggs Bakers, Boots the Chemist, Spar shop, Post Office and florists. Other facilities include Lloyds TSB bank, travel agents, estate agents, solicitors, hairdressers, launderette, opticians, vets, pet shop, tanning salon and tailors.
Newcastle is but an hour's drive away. The Metro Centre at Gateshead and the historic cities of York and Leeds are within easy driving distance for a good day out.
