Area Overview

The town of Bordon lies within North East Hampshire and contains the villages of Grayshott, Headley, Kingsley, Lindford and Whitehill. It lies on the A325 which can be reached from the north near Farnham on the A31 or from the south off the A3. It is set within beautiful countryside, ideal for walking.

Bordon is close to many interesting towns, for example Winchester, Portsmouth, Farnham and Guildford. There are plenty of family attractions close by which offer great days out for all ages.

I know Bordon reasonably well as I come from Winchester. It's not the centre of the universe but it's between the A3 and the A31, as I am sure you have discovered, and that's a pretty good place to be. About half an hour south you have the South coast beaches. I am personally a big fan of Southsea. Guildford and Winchester, both great for shopping are within shouting distance. Farnham is the closest town. There is pretty much everything you could want in Farnham (other than a big Mall) including a Waitrose, some really nice pubs and restaurants, dance classes, groups and clubs of every type.

Bordon is quite rural, so there are loads of places to walk and run.

When you go into Guildford do not wear any type of heels. You will never make it up and down the cobbles! Nice shopping in Farnham and lots of evening activities go on there. Alton's quiet but not bad either. Driving through Bordon to get to Hayling Island where there's a nice beach

Farnham is lovely, and Guildford has lots of lovely shops Guildford is a lovely shopping town, nice restaurants and pubs too.

Children and Education

The catchment primary schools for the military housing areas in Bordon are Bordon Infants and Juniors. They are easily walkable from the military housing areas. The catchment secondary school is Mill Chase Secondary School, again in walking distance of the quarter areas. Crèche and nursery provision is catered for in the town and The Bordon Garrison Pre School is within the quartering area. Private nurseries are also available for those who require full day childcare. Within Hampshire there are various Private Schools accommodating both boys and girls.

Transport and Travel

Borden is one of those places where you really need a car!

Buses operate generally every half an hour, six days a week, to Farnham, Aldershot and Alton. Sunday services are few and far between.

The nearest railway station is Liphook, and there is a special bus service that runs Monday to Friday at peak times to meet the hourly London Waterloo / Portsmouth trains.

Pets

Medical and Dental

For Serving Personnel there is The Garrison Medical Centre and the Regional Defence Dental Agency (DDA), both located on camp near the TTA entrance of Prince Philip Barracks. For families’ healthcare, there are plenty of GP surgeries to choose from and a local hospital with an A&E department about 15 miles away at Frimley Park. There are several dental surgeries available to register at.

Sports and Leisure

The camp has several gyms, well equipped with weight training and multigym facilities and a garrison pool, which is open to all serving personnel and their families.

Shopping and Tourism

There is a shopping arcade in the town centre with a chemist, greengrocers, dry cleaners, newsagents, post office, cobblers, Wilkinsons, Halifax, HSBC, café, carpet shop, Somerfield and a Lidl. There is also a Tesco store available on the High Street. For more shops, then travel to the nearby towns of Alton, Farnham, Petersfield, Farnborough and Aldershot, all within a few miles. These other towns offer more of a range of High Street stores. Also within easy reach are a number of retail parks for larger purchases and electronic goods. Going further a field are Guildford, Portsmouth and Basingstoke, which provide you with the larger department stores and outlet shopping, as well as the large retail parks.
