Area Overview

M Condor is situated about 2 miles from Arbroath town and is home to 45 Commando Royal Marines and also 7 Sphinx Commando Royal Artillery Battery both of which are part of 3 Commando Brigade. Arbroath is the largest town in Angus with a population of roughly 25,000. It is a Fishing port well known for its famous Arbroath Smokies which are exported across the world, as well as being a resort town with wonderful leisure facilities and beach. Its original name was more descriptive of its origin – Aberbrothock, "at the mouth of the Brothock" (Burn). Arbroath is also well known for its Abbey which was completed in 1233. In 1320 Scotland’s Nobles swore their independence from England in the famous "Declaration of Arbroath" in the Abbey itself.
