Shopping and Tourism

Union Street and Wellington Street were pedestrianised in the 1970s when the Wellington Centre, a covered shopping centre, was built. In the 1990s, an extension of the Wellington Centre, The Galleries, provided extra shops, although nearly all are now closed. Local traders have claimed that this centre and its associated development are threatening the remaining independent shops operating in Aldershot. A local councillor has claimed "we have too many empty shops in the town", and it is a frequent complaint of local residents that the town has declined.

The local Focus DIY Store on North Lane is pleased to offer all members of the Armed Forces and any Contractors working on behalf of the MOD a 10% discount on all purchases with the Community Support Discount Card. Simply show your ID in store and start saving straight away! For further information please contact the store on 01252 334 252.

There are two retail parks in Farnborough. The first one contains Currys, Mamas & Papas, Halfords, Next and TK Max. The second one is near Asda in Farnborough, this has Pets at Home, A curtain store and B&Q.

For the best shopping most people travel to either Guildford or Camberley.
