Children and Education

The schools will depend on the quarters area you live in - Emerson's Green, Pilning and Stoke Park are in South Gloucestershire; Keynsham is in Bath and North East Somerset and Long Ashton is in North Somerset.

Transport and Travel

The area is served by excellent motorways - M4 for London to South Wales travel and the M5 for south west to the Midlands. Transport links from the quarters to DE&S Abbey Wood is congested - an early start is recommended and car sharing (on the A4174) from Emerson's Green and Keynsham will reduce the journey time by half. You can cycle from quarter areas to work but Long Ashton and Keynsham are approximately 12 miles away (the area is blessed with excellent cycle paths but cyclist unaware drivers when you have to travel on the road!) Emerson's Green is approximately 5 miles away and is runable. Car parking at DE&S Abbey WOod is a nightmare with limited spaces.

There is a railway station at Filton Abbey Wood (with a side gate allowing access into the site) next to DE&S Abbey Wood and also Bristol Parkway station is approximately 1km from the main site.

The quarters are accessible by public transport as follows:

Emerson's Green. Buses from Bristol leave the city centre at 2300hrs. No railway station. Keynsham. Buses from the centre of Bath and Bristol leave the city centre at 2300hrs. There is a railway station approimately 1.6km from the patch. Long Ashton. There is a railway station approximately 2.5km from the patch. Pilning. TBC. Stoke Park. TBC

In terms of outdoors, you have the Cotswolds, the Black Mountains as well as the beautiful coastline on your doorstep.

Shopping and Tourism

Within approximately 1 hrs drive of the married quarters are Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Cheltenahm, Cardiff, Swindon, Salisbury and Newbury.

Don't forget Ikea - everyone's favourite (?!) There's a huge Ikea store in Bristol just off Junction 2 of the M32. Handy for forgotten bits and bobs.

It's also in a small retail park which has a Next, Asda and the like.

Cribbs Causeway has a huge Asda supermarket - with home department - as well as DFS, B&Q, a Homebase, ScS, as well as the Cribbs Causeway Mall
